Days of Creation is a family farm in Wayne County, Georgia, just west of Jesup. We, Dewayne and Sheryl Herrin, run this farm along with our children: Sydney, Shelby, Derrick, Sarah, Dallas, and Sterling.
We wanted our kids to have "farm" experiences with animals, plants, and wide-open space. We also wanted them to experience starting and running a business.
At first, they were very excited about the prospects. What an adventure this was going to be! Then, they found out that WE(and THEY) were the farm labor. (Uh-oh, Toto, we're not in Kansas any more.)
We first planted Christmas trees in early 2003 with sales starting at Christmas of 2006. We've had considerable setbacks. Some of these setbacks were natural -- like diseases, wind, rain, and deer -- that caused the demise of over a thousand of our precious young trees. Others were man-made and too numerous to mention here; we doubt that we've made every mistake that can be made, but we've got a rather lengthy list started.
In addition to the choose-n-cut Christmas trees, some of the kids have started, or are starting, their own enterprises. They have landscape trees of various sizes, they've tried watermelons and cantaloupes, and are getting into meat goats.
The farm has been a lot of work, especially when you consider that the farm was in an abandoned status when we bought it. The buildings and fences were falling down and the fields were overgrown with pines, wax myrtle, and briars. However, the farm is now in a condition that we're proud for you to see. (We're not finished yet, but...)
Our goal is for you to come experience some of what we see routinely. Come, spend some time walking around the fields, see the animals, take some pictures, and take home a memory! After all, "We're in the family business - come make a memory!"
